Thomas was very knowledgeable and helpful in working with me to solo over a Charlie Parker tune in my jazz improvisation class recital.  Since the genre of Bebop was very unfamiliar for me, I needed a lot of help!  I not only ended up writing/improvising my own solo, but also learned valuable concepts for jazz improvisation.

From ages 11 to 12 my daughter Angelica had weekly Skype lessons with Thomas Fraioli for Jazz Violin. Progress was so successful on improvisation and other Jazz skills, that Angelica passed an audition for a scholarship at the Purcell International School for talented young Musicians, which is near to where we live in London, UK. Jazz Violin is one of her specialist study subjects at the School.

Thomas Fraioli is an excellent teacher. He brings a perfect blend of conservatory techniques coupled with very well thought out ideas when teaching Jazz and Blues violin playing. In the course of the last year, my tone and technique have improved and my licks are a lot more interesting. What a great resource for someone trying to improve skills on jazz and blues violin!!

I first knew of Thomas Fraioli from watching his YouTube videos, which I found easy to understand and inspiring. Coming from Irish traditional fiddling, I was very unsure of my ability to learn a musical genre (blues and jazz) that was so completely different. But a lesson with Mr. Faioli is a treasure chest of learning, with print-outs, and guidance and recordings to keep the mind and fingers engaged. He’s also generous with his time and I’m really happy to have found him!

I would never thought as a classically trained violinist that I would have chance to learn to play jazz and blues. As I was just starting out to learn to improvise (on my own) I saw some of videos of Thomas on Youtube, and decided to contact him. After several lessons, he has brought me to quite a higher level.

From the basic concepts and practical playing, he helps me accelerate my curiosity to learning more and more about playing jazz music. After every lesson, I feel so satisfied, and I have learned exactly how to train myself to be better. All of his PDF materials are treasures to me. He has also given me really valuable advice for my own compositions. His demonstrations, always inspire me a lot!

I come from a traditional classical violin background and jazz theory was a foreign language to me. But Thomas had me speaking short phrases very quickly, after only a few lessons. He is an excellent teacher, extremely knowledgeable, and cares about his students. Thomas’s lessons are very organized and he tailors them to the student, with sheet music and exercises that are very helpful and specifically written for violin. He’s made concepts that were difficult for me seem easier and more accessible (such as playing chords and inversions on two strings).

I wasn’t sure I’d like Skype lessons as much as in-person lessons but I am surprised by how much I do - they are just as effective and are SO much more convenient for me. I’ve learned a lot from Thomas and am very happy I found him as a teacher - and I am looking forward to learning lots more about jazz violin!
